Language Lab

The Language Lab offers stimuli and spaces for learning with and about language(s), innovative approaches to reading, and research into the process of writing by hand. The Language Lab combines three research projects (or labs).

The goal of the Reading Innovation Lab (J. Festman) is the implementation of inclusive reading promotion. Several approaches are combined, i) involving children holistically in the reading experience (e.g. through dialogue reading aloud, picture book cinema), ii) reading in several languages (e.g. via selected websites) and iii) individual reading promotion with a listening pen. Teachers receive information about innovative reading promotion concepts and their possibilities in the classroom to support children specifically and individually in their reading acquisition.

The aim of the Miracle pen laboratory (S. Gerth) is to test a digital pen in primary school and to further develop an app that is linked to this pen. Teachers receive information about the writing process (speed, pressure on the surface, duration) and can support the children specifically and individually in their acquisition of writing. In addition, materials for this support can be designed and co-developed.

The focus of the project Digital Learning in Primary School English Teaching (G. Alter) is intercultural education as social, cultural and linguistic diversity in the globalised and individualised society against the background of an increasing heterogeneity of lifestyles, which is also reflected in classrooms. Furthermore, G. Alter deals with game didactics and picture books. The potentials of linking analogue and digital teaching-learning processes are to be used for foreign language teaching at primary level.
