Innovative, inclusive, sustainable teaching and learning projects in the heart of the Alps

The INNALP Education Hub creates an infrastructure in the centre of the Alps where educational innovations are developed and tested. Educational offers and teaching settings related to topics of digitalisation, inclusion and sustainable education are systematically tested by students and scientifically accompanied by researchers in order to design them in a demand-oriented way and thus establish them permanently in the education system.

About the project

Thanks to the research network, the various innovation labs at the six locations can be used jointly, thus bringing together the infrastructure of the universities and the individual institutes. The joint project of the University of Innsbruck (UIBK), the University College of Teacher Education Tyrol (PHT) and the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein (FHK) is highly interdisciplinary and oriented towards the living environment of pupils and their future socio-economic environment. To this end, the project has entered into partnerships with business and educational organisations and institutions.

The INNALP Education Hub comprises (so far) 18 innovation projects, which are assigned to the three underlying innovation fields, "DigiTech Space", "Media, Inclusion & AI Space" and "Green Space". The researched areas of the project thus range from digitalisation and robotics, inclusive artificial intelligence to environmental education and sustainability.

The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tyrol can look back on many years of expertise in the field of digitalisation in teaching and research. Within the framework of the INNALP project, we can use this know-how in conjunction with our laboratories for the development of new didactic concepts and strive for deeper networking with school partners. Developing good teaching in a research-led, high-quality and innovative way is a central concern of the University College of Teacher Education Tyrol. With the INNALP Education Hub, we are also strengthening our focus areas such as education for sustainable development and diversity. Current changes such as digitalisation, but also dealing with major challenges such as tackling climate change, require new, innovative concepts in education. With innovation labs such as the INNALP Education Hub, the Innovation Foundation promotes the development and elaboration of innovative teaching and learning offers in these central topics. The Innovation Foundation for Education is providing INNALP with a total of 500,000 euros for a period of 36 months. The aim is to create a framework for more creativity, development work and ultimately innovation for sustainable education in Austria.

The Directorate of Education for Tyrol is pleased to cooperate with tertiary institutions (PH Tirol, Uni Innsbruck, FH Kufstein), the business community and selected partner schools for testing new innovative, inclusive and sustainable teaching and learning scenarios on the most important topics of our time - sustainable development, inclusion and diversity, digitalisation and mediatisation, as well as medicine and health. Above all, the possibility of testing educational innovations in extracurricular digital and analogue teaching and learning spaces under scientific supervision and subsequent evaluation in research labs (DigiTech Space, Media, Inclusion & AI Space, Green Space) is an important impulse for school quality development in the sense of further education and training.
